Effects of alumina slag (Valoxy) and rice husk ash as substitute resources on mechanical properties of mullite based ceramics

In this study, mullite-based ceramics were prepared by substituting alumina slag (valoxy) and rice husk ash (RHA) for commercially pure quartz, respectively. Five body compositions containing 5, 10, 15, 20% valoxy: RHA created. At 75MPa load, the formulated bodies thoroughly mixed homogeneously uniaxially compacted to produce cylindrical shaped samples 30 mm diameter 50 high. After compacting samples, they sintered in a muffle furnace at 1200 ℃ rate of 10 ℃/min 2 hours before being allowed cool room temperature offloading. Mechanical properties such as microhardness compressive strength was conducted on determine effects substitute materials have over mullite ceramics. The results showed maximum hardness (16 GPa) (56.76 observed 2.5 % respectively while decline remaining compositions. Thus, indicating that use these wastes is only beneficial lower percent inclusion.
